Drink Kendra Drink Wrap Up

In the last year I picked out a new car, got a new nephew, spent time with really old friends, made some awesome new friends and had to get rid of my cat.  I fell on my ass in an airport, did a bunch of karaoke-ing and found my groove in my yoga practice.  I also drank 325 cocktails. I took tons of ridiculous photos of myself for the website. I took quite a few for no reason whatsoever. (See above photo where I try to multitask by doing yoga and drinking wine simultaneously.  Dork!)  I didn't always like my project.  In fact, I hated it a lot toward the end but I'm glad I now have a log of my drinking life for the last year.  If you posed for a photo with me, made a request or held the camera while I mugged, thanks for your support!  I love you! Cheers!

So, what did I learn?  I learned that I drink a lot more than I thought I did.  I also learned that it's okay to look really ugly or completely dumb in a photo and post it on the internet.  Nobody really cares except you.  And maybe some chic that hated you in high school or something, but whatever!  I learned that Clamato mixed with light American beer is not very yummy and that if George says to order the Haleakalada, you order the Haleakalada.  It appears I'm pretty much a wine and beer person that can take or leave liquor.  I also tend to have an affection for champagne and margaritas on special occasions.  Good to know I guess.  I think the biggest thing I learned is that your friends and family will support you no matter how stupid or silly they think your current project is, whether it's by taking countless photos (Tim!) or checking a website daily or weekly just to see what your cousin drank last night (Mandy!).

9 Month Update

It's been 9 months since Drink Kendra Drink started.  I could've had a baby by now but instead I drank 236 cocktails.  Yeah!  While taking a photo and logging every drink has sometimes been a pain in the ass (especially with the no do-over rule on photographs...ugh), I've certainly gotten the hang of it by now!  Here are my 9 month tallies:

Then,  we hooked up w/ Dan & Edi and had some drinks.  I'd never had Absinthe so I decided to try it.  It was good.  Sweeter than I expected and more licorice~y.  I thought it was supposed to be a really strong taste and that's why people used to pour it over sugar back in the day but I'm sure the version served now is way diluted.

Dear Alcohol Voyeur,

I started this project exactly 6 months ago, on June 1st.  It is sometimes really fun and sometimes a big ole' drag to have to take photos of my drinks, all 148 of them.  I do, however, like looking back on the past 6 months worth of entries on this site because it's a pretty good record of what I did, where I was and who I hung out with (when I was drinking anyway).

I thought it would be interesting to count appearances by people/animals/things occurring in the blog and see what pops up the most.  Here's how that breaks down:

• 19 appearances:  Tim (shocking)
• 7 appearances:  Stacey Macy
• 4 appearances:  Hogie, Lori and my television.
• 3 appearances:  Edi, Crystal Pistol, Monte and Dixie
• 2 appearances:  Roberto, Jenny, and Brian

When looking back, it is obvious that I am an at-home drinker.  I did, however, count up the other places I drank and tally 'em on up.  (# of times drinking there, not how many drinks consumed there.  That would be a whole different list!)  Here's how the places I drank at more than once broke down:

• 5 times:  Palermo, En Sushi 
• 4 times:  Brass Monkey
• 3 times:  Little Dom's, The Vermont
• 2 times:  Tom Bergin's, The Library, The Parlor, Tub Tim Thai, Cuba Libre, Fred 62, Jenn's house, Dan & Dawn's house, Roberto & Monte's house.

I guess I'm really a beer drinker at heart, even though I think I'm a wine drinker.  Beer beat out wine by 4.  I also drink vodka more than any other liquor.  Sweet!  I have 6 months left and I'm going to try to make it more exciting for myself, which I think will probably entail partying more. :) I'm getting bored with the project and don't want to abandon it.  Let me know if you have any ideas.  If you want to be in the blog, let me know. We'll drink and pose and make merry.  Yeah!

~Drinker's Note:  We'd met Edi and Dan for lunch last minute.  When we got to the restaurant, they'd already been waiting for 20 minutes for a table.  We proceeded to wait 25 minutes longer and we were all getting weak when the hostess asked if we wanted free cocktails.  Um, yeah!!!  Kind of fun to drink on the street.  They were yummy too and at least we got to chat with our pals and catch up on what is up with them while dying of hunger.

~Drinker's Note:  Dan and Dawn had a bunch of awesome people over to watch the results come in.  We all got teared up during President Elect Barack Obama's speech.  It was a great way to spend election night.  Bittersweet because of Prop 8 (the California Prop to deny marriage rights to same sex couples), but very inspirational to see our country on the way to change!

~Drinker's Note: I'd rented a nice zombie movie for the occasion (28 Days Later) but we got sucked right into this show called the 100 Scariest Moments in film on Bravo and never watched our flick. I'm a sucker for a good countdown and I love scary movies, so it was irresistible. The only problem was that I had crazy dreams of Freddy Krueger and that wasn't all that cool. Next year I'm making Tim dress up!
